Therapy in the Providence Metro area
There it is again. The lump in your throat that you can’t get past to say what’s really on your mind. You’re flooded with noise - other peoples’ opinions, advice, or the shade they bring to your parade. You don’t want to be a doormat, but the message you’ve received is that putting yourself first is selfish. You say yes when you want to say no, try to do everything “right,” and inevitably someone complains and you end up feeling worse. Your mind is stuck on repeat and you can’t shut it off.
You are the quintessential overthinking people pleaser and it feels awful. This is not who you were meant to be.
At this point you often think you’re saying the wrong thing, are stuck in a loop of arguing and appeasing, your body doesn’t know how to relax, and you aren’t even sure you know what you want anymore. You need space to breathe and a new way forward. You want to feel more confident, calm, and emotionally balanced. You just don’t know how to get there.
My name is Lisa, I’m a therapist in Rhode Island, and I can help.
Lisa Ferreira Therapist in Cranston, RI specializing in Anxiety, People Pleasing, Relationship Struggles.
I have been helping people work through the rough patches in their lives in order to feel better and live more fully for nearly a decade. I offer a welcoming and inclusive environment, practice from a place of cultural humility, and am part of the LGBTQQ+ community. Specifically, I help people get from a stuck place where they believe that their voice doesn’t matter to one in which they feel truly seen by learning how to release self-doubt and step into their truest, most courageous selves.
Sprinkled in-between my professional working years was another decade of full-time parenting/homeschooling and performing as a vocalist. I bring a wealth of personal and professional experience - the right amount of sugar and spice for the honest and thoughtful feedback you’ve been needing. I see my role as an attentive listener, guide, and professional onion peeler (figuratively speaking, of course!) and people who know me well would describe me as patient, kind, compassionate, determined, and an out-of-the-box thinker.
Working with me looks something like this: we discuss your current struggles, we may dive deep into past hurts and experiences, uncover patterns you may be stuck in, and explore what all of those themes mean for you. I can teach you skills to have better control and flexibility with your thoughts and feelings, which combined with your own inner knowing, can bring you to the other side - where you will not only exist, but thrive.
My professional style is pretty eclectic and laid back; I infuse my sense of humor into sessions along with my experience and clinical training. The length of time someone meets with me for therapy varies for each person and at the start of our work I typically see clients weekly for 60 minute sessions. I maintain a manageable caseload in order to serve my clients well and ensure I am showing up as my full self for each and every session. Therapy is a bit like a container…we are in it together and I am by your side until you feel ready to leap out and blaze a new trail for yourself. I hope to be the landing spot you have been looking for to breathe deeply, release steadily, and restart confidently.

Frequently Asked Questions About Therapy in Rhode Island and Florida
-
This is a great question and looks different for each person. Once we agree to work together, you will complete several online forms that will help me learn more about you and you will sign documents that go over my policies and expectations. Once that is completed we will meet virtually for your first appt which is your intake assessment where I will ask a lot of questions, gather more information about you, and determine some initial goals you have for therapy.
All subsequent sessions will involve a check-in about your week, any acute issues you would to discuss or work on, possible skills/techniques you tried since your last session, and processing past issues and current struggles. No therapy session is exactly like the other. We will work together to ensure you have a safe place to express your thoughts and feelings and work towards your personal goals. Sometimes talking about uncomfortable things or topics we have tended to avoid can lead us to have intense feelings like anger, shame, anxiety, sadness, etc. which is very common. Therapy can act as a container to hold the space for you to process these complicated and personal concerns in the presence of another.

Virtual therapy, or telehealth, works much like therapy in-person. The differences are of course that the session happens over a computer/tablet and you can join your session from the comfort of your own home or office. As long as you have a reliable Internet connection and a quiet, private space you can meet for session. Many people like virtual sessions because it eliminates the need for transportation, saves time on commuting, may lessen the need for childcare, is not interrupted by weather related events, and is convenient. In the event that I or you cannot connect securely with a video session we can utilize a phone session in its place.
I am licensed to provide therapy if you are located in Rhode Island or Florida.

As an licensed independent clinical social worker I completed a two-year Masters in Social Work program in which I interned 24 hours/week both years in addition to graduate level courses; those internships were in the areas of domestic violence support and substance abuse consultation in a level 1 trauma center.
Following my graduate program, I worked in several settings including community mental health, treatment foster care, research, juvenile justice, and private practice. Currently, I work in a psychiatric hospital and private practice.
Therapeutic modalities I have been trained in and regularly draw from include cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectal behavior therapy (DBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), and motivational interviewing (MI).

My credentialing with BCBS of RI is in process, but as of right now, I am not contracted to work with insurance companies. There are options to reduce the cost of therapy.
OUT-OF-NETWORK REIMBURSEMENT (OON):
Most HMO plans do not have OON benefits, but many PPO plans do. You can check to see if part of your session fee would be reimbursed by contacting your insurance company.
You may want to ask your insurance company if:
you have a deductible?
you have OON benefits?
if there is a limit to the number of therapy sessions per calendar year?
Using OON benefits means your insurance company may have access to information about your care and I would be required to provide a diagnosis.
All session fees are due at time of service and reimbursement happens afterwards. Many people also use their HSA/FSA card to pay my fee. All major credit cards are accepted.
Full session fees are due at the time of your appointment and I provide you with a “superbill” afterwards that you may submit to your insurance company to see if you can be reimbursed for part of the session fee (once you have met your plan deductible, if applicable.)
OUT-OF-POCKET:
This option provides more privacy, no claims or details about your care are shared with health insurance companies, and there are no limits or guidelines about the number of sessions you may attend. Changing health insurance companies does not impact your therapy course.
Payment is made directly to me at the time of service. As with OON benefits, many clients use their HSA/FSA card to pay for therapy. All major credit cards are accepted.
I am happy to discuss the option that works best for you!
FEE SCHEDULE:
